Permits / Police

Some other providers and web sites will tell you that you do not need a permit if you stay on the sidewalk, or have less than 20 people. Maybe those folks have gotten away with it. But after having planned hundreds of parades, we can tell you a permit is REQUIRED for a street parade. And you are also NOT allowed to parade on the sidewalk with a band. Period.
For safe and legal parades, we need a Parade Permit from City Hall. We also need Two Motorcycle cops that will go up ahead of us and stop all vehicular traffic, so we can go up the middle of the street! Also required is a Police Cruiser, that rides behind your parade party, to make sure no vehicles encroach from behind. (This may surprise you, but some drivers in the French Quarter may have been drinking.) We work very closely with City Hall and NOPD, so please do not ask us to provide a parade band if you do not have a permit and police escort. Yes, you can obtain the permit and cops yourself, and I've provided the link below. But in our experience, these events goes much more smoothly if you let us handle all of these details. It costs a little more for us to do it for you, but shouldn't you be stress free for this once in a lifetime event? Parade permits are available through the City of New Orleans One Stop department, (the same place you would get a construction permit). Here is the link. http://www.nola.gov/onestop/ |
